Painting Horses

Located near Colorado's Great Sand Dunes, at the Zapata Ranch, this workshop focuses on drawing and painting horses. Discussions and exercises will address the importance of understanding equine anatomy, as well as what makes good drawing, composition, and color. Activities will include photo opportunities (of horses running and on a bison tour), sketching and studying corralled horses, demonstrations, and critiques.

The Workings of Good Composition
October 19–21, 2016
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This three-day course focuses on the elements and principles of composition as well as the importance of intention. Students are encouraged to apply specific concepts of composition and color to their own work including value massing, simplification, compositional contrasts, and color theory. Students will receive individual attention pinpointing their strengths and troubleshooting their weaknesses. The workshop includes short discussions, exercises, demonstrations, and critiques. All media welcome.
